Libya - Increasing Skepticism

The rebels in Libya appear to be losing ground to the forces of Muammar Gaddafi’s government in the fight to control Libya, and American support for action in Libya appears to be on the decline. The latest Economist/YouGov Poll suggests that may be tied to increasing skepticism about the rebels chance of victory.

Now, Americans with an opinion are divided as to whom they expect eventually will emerge triumphant in Libya. Last week, the rebels were favored.

Support for enforcing sanctions on Libya has dropped seven points in the last week; support for humanitarian aid is down 10 points. When it comes to enforcing the no fly zone, support has also dropped, down six points from last week. However, about four in ten, just as many as a week ago, favor targeting Gaddafi to remove him from power (though few favor giving arms to the rebels or sending in ground troops).
