Americans can't take the summer heat

Americans - and especially those in the North East - have had enough of the hot weather this summer

Last week, temperatures soared across much of the country with nearly every state experiencing temperatures over ninety degrees. New research from YouGov shows that Americans have had enough of the heat, at least for now.

When asked about the weather, 56% say that the weather has been too hot so far this summer. 35% say that the temperatures have been just right and 5% say the weather has not been hot enough.

The heat wave stretched from California to New England, but it did not affect all equally. Those in the Northeast are the most tired of hot weather, with 76% reporting that that weather had been too hot. Those in the West are the least bothered, with only 49% tired of the heat and 41% saying the weather has been just right.

While many have found the summer too hot, Americans aren't ready to accept the claim that the heat wave was the result of climate change. In regard to the heatwave, 38% say that it is "the result of climate change" while 48% say that "these kinds of events just happen from time to time."

The number, however, who ascribe the extreme weather to climate change has gone up in comparison with 2012 and 2011, when respectively 35% and 33% blamed the extreme weather on climate change.

Temperatures have recently cooled down, approaching Americans' ideal temperature for the weather: 75°F. This number was found by asking Americans' what their ideal temperature is and then taking the average. It remains consistent across most demographic groups, though women say they prefer a slightly hotter temperature than men, and those 18-29 years old prefer it cooler than any other age group.

While Americans might be feeling scorched at the moment, they have at least one thing to look forward to: Fall. The results showed that the season is Americans' favorite, with 37% selecting it as such. The next most popular season was Spring, which was selected by 25%, while Winter was the least popular, with only 10% dubbing it their favorite.
