Americans tend to give most politicians negative assessments – for example, majorities have negative impressions of two prominent ones at opposite ends of the political spectrum: they don’t like Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi nor do they like former Alaska Governor and Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin.

More have unfavorable than favorable views of both Republican and Democratic leaders, including House Minority Leader John Boehner, Tea Party enthusiast and talk show host Glenn Beck, Senate Majority leader Harry Reid, and former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel.

Americans are divided when it comes to the President and the Vice President. First Lady Michelle Obama, as it has been the case with most First Ladies, receives more favorable assessments than unfavorable ones.

Two people lead in this list: Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former President Bill Clinton. 56% hold favorable views of each – while only 38% express negative feelings.

In fact, the Clintons are the only political figures included in this poll to whom independents give favorable ratings. And nearly a quarter or Republicans think favorably about President Clinton – while 26% of them have positive views of his wife, the Secretary of State.
