Nearly half of Americans admit to Googling themselves.

Self-Googling, ego-surfing, or vanity searching has been linked by academics to the rise of narcissism in our society. However, now Google is an integral component of employer recruitment checks, and has gained acceptance as a way of checking out new friends or partners, it seems less like narcissism and more like common sense to check yourself out on Google.

Not surprisingly the 16-34 age group is most likely to self-Google, they are also the most likely group to have amassed quantities of online content. Men are slightly more likely to check themselves out online than women; college grads and those with higher family incomes are also more likely to Google themselves than those without a college degree or in lower income brackets.
