I want to live forever

Not everybody wants life to go on, and on forever. In fact only 42 percent of American responders would live forever if they had the choice. Men are much keener to hang around, with 48 percent of men compared to 36 percent of women choosing to keep going indefinitely.

The responders who liked the idea of living forever were asked what they would be willing to do to keep alive. 23 percent of the men thought their own perpetual life might be worth one other person’s life. 14 percent of men were theoretically willing to kill a few million for a permanent, living existence.

Women were less inclined to kill in order to spend eternity awake and mortal. Only 10 percent would take a life in order to permanently extend their own life.

The responders were also given the option of gaining permanent life in exchange for extreme poverty, continual nakedness, or giving up all human contact. Perpetual nakedness was seen as the least-worst option with 30 percent of responders interested in living permanently unclothed. Women were considerably less likely to opt for eternal nudity than men. Giving up all human contact was seen as an option for 18% but only 13% would choose to live forever in poverty.
