(Week of 6/30/2012) The full impact of the Supreme Court’s ruling on the President and his re-election campaign won’t be known until the fall. But the immediate impact may be slightly positive. In this week’s Economist/YouGov Poll, President Obama holds a four point lead over the presumptive GOP nominee, Mitt Romney, among registered voters. Last week, the race was effectively tied — a one-point edge for the President, well within the poll’s margin of error.

The President also leads when it comes to voter expectations of victory — 47% of registered voters think he will be re-elected; 23% say Romney will win.

68% of Americans this week think health care is a very important issue (up from 65% a week ago), but the economy still dominates. As for the President’s performance on health care, the country is divided: this week 42% approve, and 47% do not. That is slightly better than his rating on the issue last week.
