(Week of 8/25/2012) Just about half in the latest Economist/YouGov Poll who are aware of the controversy surrounding Congressman Todd Akin say he should quit the Missouri Senate race, including 40% of Republicans.

Less than a third think Akin should stay in the race against incumbent Democratic Senator Claire McCaskill, a contest perceived as tight before Akin claimed that women’s bodies could prevent pregnancy in cases of "legitimate rape." Both men and women think Akin should quit the race.

Few believe the claim Akin made: only 8% think women who are raped are less likely to become pregnant than women who engage in consensual sex.

13% of Republicans agree with Akin, but 62% do not.
