(Week of 4/20/2013) Eight in ten Americans believe that the country will always have to live with the risk of a terrorism attack. And there is more worry now than there was four years ago that another attack is likely in the next 12 months. 65% in the latest Economist/YouGov Poll say another attack is likely within the year. Four years ago, just over half believed that. However, fewer than one in four describe another attack as very likely. And 52% say they generally feel safe.

Concern about additional attacks always rises in the wake of events like the Boston Marathon bombings. However, that general concern doesn’t necessarily mean that most Americans personally are worried that they -- or people in their local communities -- might become victims of terrorism. In the latest Economist/YouGov Poll, less than half say they are even somewhat concerned about a terrorist attack in the area where they live, and just 14% are very concerned.
