Valentine's Day isn't all rosebuds and perfectly choreographed fine dining.

More than a quarter of Americans (27%) think that planning a successful Valentine's Day date would be more stressful than filling in their annual tax returns. Which may be why so many partners choose to just stay at home. Nearly two in five adults in a relationship (38%) plan to go out for dinner with their spouse or partner but another 37% are planning on celebrating at home. 14% aren't celebrating with their spouse or partner at all.

A quarter of American men in a relationship (25%) have planned ahead and have already bought their partners a present. 35% plan to get one but haven't quite closed the deal and a further 32% of men have taken the brave decision not to bother buying a present at all.

Top presents for adults who are going to buy one are chocolates and sweets (43%) and a card (46%). 34% of men who are going to buy a present are going to pick up flowers.
