More than half of Millennials are not participating in the lottery
The lottery: a chance to make all of your dreams come true with the help of a few numbers. 1 in 5 (19%) Americans dare to fantasize about winning the lottery at least once a week, although only 14% buy a ticket as frequently. The one demographic that seems immune to the lure of the lottery are Millennials. 51% of the segment never buy lottery tickets and only 11% dream about winning the lottery once a week or more.
For all their dreams, aspiring lottery winners actually seem to have their feet firmly planted on the ground. 30% of Americans say the first thing they would do if they won the lottery would be to pay off any debts, and 23% would assemble a dream team of attorneys and financial advisors to protect their newfound fortune.
Americans do not see the lottery as a means to early retirement. 22% say that they would never give up their work if they received a hefty payout. More than a third (35%) of Millennials say that they would never give up work for any amount of money. Although 26% of Americans nearing retirement (55+) would consider leaving work if they won less than a million dollars, many Americans (40%) would need at least 5 million to leave their jobs.
