Whether they're real or fictional, a new survey from YouGov reveals the public's top pick among 20 popular partners

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, Batman and Robin, John Lennon and Paul McCartney, R2-D2 and C-3PO — most people have heard of these famous duos, but only a few could confidently tell you which particular member is more adored than the other. A new YouGov poll should help put all questions to rest.

Examining 20 well-known duos, from Fox Mulder and Dana Scully to Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy, the results are as follows:

As the numbers show, Batman is far more popular than his young companion, Robin: 70% of US adults familiar with the two caped crusaders prefer Batman, while only 14% say they prefer Robin.

A similar disparity exists between Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson (61% to 15%), as well as Mario and his twin brother, Luigi (48% to 17%). But perhaps that's no surprise, given that the less popular member plays sidekick to the more popular protagonist.

What might be less expected, however, is Juliet's victory over Romeo, and Eve's defeat of Adam. Mr. Spock also beat Captain Kirk.

The only perfect tie occurred between Wayne Campbell and Garth Algar from the Wayne's World series.
