Slightly more shoppers are currently hearing positive things about the department store than this time last year

With the holiday shopping season just around the corner and Macy's, Inc. preparing to release its earnings results for the third quarter of 2017, recent data from YouGov BrandIndex indicates that consumer perception of the retailer has recovered since hitting an all-time low last winter.

In early 2017, news of declining sales and multiple store closures helped push Macy's Buzz score — which asks respondents if they've heard anything positive or negative about a particular brand in the past two weeks — down from a high of 10 in early January to a -4 about a month later. Since then, Macy's Buzz score has gradually risen up to a 7 by late October — a full percentage point higher than where it sat this time last year.
