Only 8% of people think that their partner is more intelligent

Many people say that intelligence is an attractive quality in a romantic partner. About four in ten (39%) people say that they and their partner are equally intelligent, but another 23% of people say they think they’re more intelligent. Men (25%) were slightly more likely than women (21%) to say this was the case.

People with high incomes of $80K or more were particularly likely to believe they were more intelligent: 28% chose this response. In contrast, only 17% of people earning less than $40K annually chose the same response.

Democrats (27%) were slightly more likely than Republicans (22%) to say that they were more intelligent than their partner. The most popular response for both parties was “I think we are equally intelligent,” with 37% of Democrats and 43% of Republicans choosing this response.
