70% of people aged 55 or older said that they "always" use a top sheet.

A viral tweet several months ago claimed that millennials don’t use top sheets on their bed, prompting people to wonder if this was just the latest thing millennials are “killing,” now that they’ve allegedly taken down napkins, cereal, and chain restaurants, to name just a few. But new data from YouGov shows that actually, most millennials are using top sheets. Almost half (49%) of people aged 18-24 said they “always” or “often” use a top sheet, along with 53% of people aged 25-34.

However, it is notable that millennials are considerably less likely than other age groups to use top sheets. People aged 55 and up were the most likely group to use top sheets, with 79% saying they “always” or “often” use a top sheet. Only 6% of people in this age group said they “never” use a top sheet. Eighteen to 24-year-olds were more than twice as likely (13%) to say they “never” used a top sheet.

When it comes to gender, there is little difference. Men (65%) and women (68%) were almost equally likely to say that they “always” or “often” used top sheets. There was also very little difference between different regions of the US. Looking at political breakdowns, Republicans (61%) were the group most likely to “always” use top sheets, compared to 56% of Democrats and 53% of Independent voters.
