Americans are watching protests against the Egyptian government unfold and wondering what impact the events will have on the U.S. relationship with Egypt. Compared to last November, twice as many Americans now call Egypt an unqualified ally of the U.S. (22% compared to 10%). And the percent of people describing relations with Egypt as 'unfriendly' has decreased from 22% to 13%. But 34% don't know quite what to make of Egypt today, unable to classify relations with the country as either friendly or unfriendly (up from 28% last November).

Though a majority of Americans see Egypt as a friend of the U.S., they don't believe that the Egyptian people have a positive view of the U.S. 45% believe Egyptians have an unfavorable opinion of the U.S., 28% believe opinion is generally favorable, and nearly 3 in 10 Americans say they just don't know.
