(Week of 6/23/2012) Two candidates for President each earn their highest marks for being intelligent. Beyond that, President Obama is characterized as inspiring, but also arrogant and hypocritical; Romney as religious, arrogant and hypocritical in the most recent Economist/YouGov poll (Week of June 23, 2012).
Neither is seen as overly partisan, and Romney is also seen as patriotic (score on that is evenly split for Obama). Romney scores relatively better on being experienced (34% say Romney is experienced vs. 13% who say Romney is not experienced, compared to 18% experienced-35% not experienced for Obama), Obama better on being bold. As many see Obama as not effective as rate him effective.
Across 15 characteristics tested, Obama’s personal advantage comes from double-digit leads over Romney on most of the middle-ground scores—Obama is more likely than Romney to be seen as honest (+11 point Obama lead over Romney), exciting (+12), sincere (+12), strong (+11) and by a small margin, steady (+4).
