There is no confirmation on which streaming platforms will the updated device support.

Social media giant Facebook could launch its next version of Portal devices this year, according to a recent report by The Information. The updated method would continue to have video calling capabilities but would connect to a television and might also include access to streaming services.

This piece says that the company was in talks with Hulu, Netflix and Amazon, among other streaming platforms to integrate their services in the device. But its additional TV functionality would make it a direct competitor to set-top boxes and streaming devices like Amazon’s Fire TV.

Facebook-branded devices have been a tough-sell and were heavily discounted earlier this year. The world’s biggest social network has previously said that while it does not track video calling information, some portal activity can be used for targeted advertising.
