GlobalWebIndex conducted an online poll of internet users spread across 46 markets.

The study revealed that mobile payment usage in the UK has risen by 18% in the past two years. The researchers say that this growth is driven by innovations like the introduction of mobile payment schemes for London’s street performers.

This research also reveals that, globally, more people (96%) have access to mobile devices than bank accounts (86%). The study says that in a previous month, four in ten online adults globally used their mobile device to pay for goods or services.

The results indicate that men’s (41%) usage of mobile payments is slightly higher than women (39%). Additionally, 43% of the people between the age 16 to 34 and 26% of Baby Boomers (aged 55 to 64) use alternative payment methods.
