Google feels such ads have no place on the platform.

This article reports a recent announcement from Google which states that the search engine giant is set to ban online ads promoting unproven medical treatment and experimental medical cures, especially for cancer and ALS. Google’s new policy is in line with the growth it has observed in “bad actors attempting to take advantage of individuals by offering untested, deceptive treatments”.

Citing a report that appeared in The Washington Post, the article notes that ban will be applicable across Google’s ad services. This will include YouTube ads and ads served to other sites that aren’t directly owned by Google.

Commenting on the ban, Adrienne Biddings, policy adviser at Google noted that the unproven medical treatments can result in dangerous health outcomes. Biddings adds, “we feel they have no place on our platforms”.
