B2B marketing and research firm Clutch surveyed 500 US-based social media users.
The survey reveals that 97% of the users surveyed say that they can recognise fake news on social media. This piece states that this confidence indicates “they have no problems in changing their social media activity as the 2020 elections loom.”
The report reveals that more than two-thirds of the respondents have seen fake news on Facebook in the past month. 50% of respondents spotted fake news on the micro-blogging site Twitter.
However, only 1% of respondents said they would cancel their Facebook accounts as a result of fake news. A separate report cited in the piece said “businesses that use social media ads should be aware of what red flags consumers look for” to determine trustworthy content.
