Both social media platforms will age-gate or remove posts if a certain number of users report them.

Social Media behemoth Facebook said it would age-gate content that sells dietary products and cosmetic surgery, and make them invisible to anyone below 18 years of age. It will also remove posts that make “miraculous claims” about diet products with links or discount codes.

Facebook-owned Instagram, where models frequently promote body ideals, will follow the same policies. However, the guidelines are not clearly defined yet, and brands can still have a strong presence if they choose their words carefully.

A Facebook spokesperson said that they would remove content “if it breaks our Community Guidelines, once reported to us by the community”. The California-based company is also taking steps to remove harmful physical and mental health information from its platform.
