The 40-member body could make these decisions about what is allowed on Facebook.

Proceeding with its plans to oversee a Supreme Court-like body, Facebook recently updated the charter governing its Oversight Board. This body will consist of 40 members, and will be funded by a trust that is not a part of Facebook.

With an aim to moderate content on the platform, the Board will have the power to make binding decisions about what is allowed on Facebook. Oversight Board will be a “quasi-judicial body” that will manage Facebook’s moderation apparatus, hear appeals and make rulings.

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO at Facebook said that board will be an “advocate for our community.” Zuckerberg believes that the Oversight Board will keep the social media platform accountable to the community.
