The overall page size significantly impacts the “Visually Complete” loading speed on desktop and mobile.

This article reveals findings of a study that analysed 5.2 million desktop and mobile pages to learn which factors impact page speed. The analysis discovered that the average time taken to fully load a webpage on desktop and mobile was 10.3 seconds and 27.3 seconds, respectively.

“Visually Complete” is an important speed metric, wherein all the visual content in a user’s browser is loaded. This speed affects a user’s subjective experience of the webpage. Larger pages take 318% longer to visually load as compared to smaller pages.

“Fully Loaded”, on the other hand, is when all the page’s assets are loaded and rendered, making the total page weight an important factor affecting page speed. Compressing images and caching reduce the page loading time.
