UK’s advertising trade body, Incorporated Society of British Advertisers (ISBA) has issued a statement saying that it hopes the upcoming general election will bring marketers “clarity and certainty” around Brexit. Although the bill is yet to be passed by the Lords, it could become law by the end of the week.

Phil Smith, director general at ISBA says establishing an “independent regulator” for social media platforms and strengthening the role of advertising co-regulatory system is expected to be on the agenda for senior marketers.

James Barge, director of public policy at ISBA notes that discussions with the government are being held to highlight the fact that advertising and marketing are “discretionary” spends. He adds, if the broader environment is disturbed, it could impact expenditures.
