Listeners can hear personalised audio newscasts from various sources.
Google has rolled out a new feature, “Your News Update”, allowing listeners to hear personalised audio newscasts through their phones and Google Home speakers. The stories will be pulled in from a variety of online sources.
One of the feature’s elements is “open specification” which lets publishers tag and submit audio stories covering a particular topic. Upon receiving a story, Google can identify its audio characteristics, analyse its content and normalise audio across sources.
The author notes that, as of now, Google isn’t pulling in stories from a “big enough” pool despite having a long list of publishers on board. Only audio that adheres to its stringent content guidelines is being used. The feature doesn’t allow for ads or sponsorships and this may not change in the near future.
