Popular discussion site Reddit will let brands pay to appear in its popular trending section across both its desktop and mobile versions. This piece says brands can pay to appear for 24 hours on what has been branded “Trending Takeovers”.

These ads can be differentiated from standard posts with the word “promoted” appearing at the top in bold. Reddit’s primary form of advertising allows brands’ posts to appear on the landing page and subreddits.

The author says that Trending Takeovers is very similar to Twitter’s Promoted Trends, which lets brands purchase 24-hour ad space in the Trending section. It encourages new conversations or engagement with users and increases exposure to new products.
