Governments and NGOs in Singapore, Israel, South Africa, Brazil, and Indonesia are already working with WhatsApp to provide accurate information at scale.
To help health organisations and community workers communicate accurate information about the pandemic, WhatsApp has launched a new Coronavirus Information hub. The hub is directed towards providing simple and actionable communication guidance in times of crisis.
The company has also partnered with World Health Organisation (WHO), UNICEF and UNDP. WhatsApp, WHO and UNICEF are working on developing messaging hotlines for people to access reliable information from the hub.
To fund the #CoronaVirusFacts Alliance, WhatsApp is also donating $1 million to Poynter Institute's International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN). Will Cathcart, head of WhatsApp, states, “We wanted to provide a simple resource that can help connect people at this time”.
