A First Insight study found that more consumers are worried now about COVID-19 compared to mid-March.

The study identified 60% Americans feeling stores should reopen at end of May, while 32% of respondents believe stores should reopen at the end of April or the beginning of May. The report observed that optimism among those living in coronavirus hot spots was higher.

43% of consumers living in Detroit, Chicago, New Orleans, Los Angeles, and San Francisco believed stores should reopen by the end of April or early May. However, 87% of those polled are now more concerned about coronavirus, compared to 71% in mid-March.

59% to 63% of consumers across generations believe stores should reopen by the end of May. Millennials (39%) are most optimistic about stores reopening by the end of April/May, compared to 31% of Gen Z.
