A separate Statista report found that online shoppers consider search and navigation as the most important site elements.

Statista forecasts that ecommerce sales would reach $4.2 trillion by the end of 2020, which is more than three times the sales of 2014 ($1.3 trillion). By 2023, ecommerce sales are expected to rise further and reach $6.5 trillion.

The researchers further predicted if the sales maintain its current trajectory, it could potentially set a benchmark at $8 trillion by 2025. Though the number of online shoppers has increased over time, roughly 2.05 billion people shop online in 2020, which is only 26.28% of the global population.

Another Statista report found 4.75% of people shop online at least once a month. But, irrespective of where they buy their products from, more than six out of ten shopping journeys begin online.
