Google relinquishes ad serving fees for news publishers

Publishers will be notified about their eligibility for fees wavier program in the next few days.

Google has announced its intention to waive off ad serving fees for news publishers for the next five months. The announcement comes in with news publishers facing unprecedented challenges with revenues being hit as brands are avoiding advertising next to Coronavirus-related coverage.

The tech giant also announced that it is starting a Journalism Emergency Relief Fund for small and local news publishers. has decided to donate $1m to the International Centre for Journalists and Columbia Journalism’s Dart Centre for Journalism and Trauma to support journalists.

The California based company has further committed $6.5m to support fact-checking and help identify misinformation regarding coronavirus. Google has taken these initiatives to support the news industry in its current struggles.
