With people stuck at home due to the pandemic, the app has had its launch preponed from June to April

Facebook is launching a dedicated mobile gaming app to take on game streaming leaders Twitch and YouTube, according to the New York Times. The app will be available on android devices from April 20th, and an app for iOS devices on the way.

A “Go Live” button in the gaming app would allow users to upload their mobile games’ streams on their personal pages. Similar to Twitch and YouTube, Facebook will offer monetisation to some of the streamers with its “Level Up” feature.

The app’s launch is part of Facebook’s constant efforts to stay ahead of competition like Twitch and YouTube in the live-streaming sector. The social media giant has been signing up top talent like former UFC champion Ronda Rousey to increase its footprint.
