Telecommunications company Comcast has published a report on consumers’ changing TV watching habits during the pandemic.
Comcast reveals that the distinctions between weekdays and weekends have been blurring since the beginning of COVID-19 pandemic. Weekday TV viewing levels and trends have moved closer to those of weekends, with people viewing TV more on Monday than Saturday since the past two weeks.
Late-night television viewing has witnessed a significant rise of 40%, with the largest increases between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. There has been a 6% decline in viewing levels between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. News consumption has also seen a “massive” increase of 64% since the start of COVID-19.
DVR usage, especially on weekdays, has been gradually decreasing, while video-on-demand usage has increased by 50%. There has been double-digit growth for discovery-related voice commands like “what to watch” and “surprise me”.
