Gfk’s 1000 plus survey of Americans revealed that consumer expectations from stores are high.
The survey showed that 70% of Americans are expecting stores to follow strict hygiene protocols. Only 53% now expect stores to enforce safety precautions like masks and social distancing compared to 59% from earlier.
The number of consumers who believed employees should be wearing facemasks also dropped from 49% to 43%. Consumers who refuse to wear facemasks are overall 14% but increases to 17% in the South and 21% in rural areas. Among college graduates, mask-refusers are only 7%.
Further, online shopping among older consumers (over-50) is dramatically increasing, as much as a 60% increase. While expectations regarding free order delivery fell from 46% to 42% over two weeks, 59% still expect some special delivery option.
