Companies will have to map their data sources for the deletion spec to work.

IAB Tech Lab unveiled a technical spec on Friday to allow publishers and their partners to manage data deletion requests under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). Publishers would need to embed a snippet of code that would automatically forward the deletion requests to all the publisher’s partners who have also adopted this spec.

Alex Cone, senior director of product management at IAB Tech Lab said publishers needed an automated, standard way to manage consumers’ data deletion requests. He added managing these requests otherwise is a “potentially error-prone and costly” process.

This piece states that companies should ensure compliance before the specs are finalised. IAB said its compliance framework, which has two components: a policy piece and technical specs, would help companies facilitate compliance.
