With consumers practicing social distancing, technologies like mobile apps, touchless kiosks, curb-side delivery, and pickups will increase. The in-store shopping landscape will change, as retailers install lockers or drop-off slots to eliminate physical interaction and speed up the return and pickup process.
Retailers may employ mobile payment apps like Apple and Google Pay for checkout to ensure social distancing, and usage of voice interfaces will surge. Retailers can also support QR codes on products and implement “scan and go” shopping options, like Amazon Go.
To avoid the risk of contamination and frequent cleaning, some retailers like Gap and Kohl’s have closed fitting rooms temporarily. However, retailers that decide to keep the fitting rooms open, must ensure the availability of sanitisers and constantly clean them after each use.
