This resource is available through a website called “How YouTube Works”.
With a broader aim to inform how YouTube works, Google has released a new resource that explains how search works for the video platform. The resource has been created to answer commonly asked questions about YouTube search results.
It can be now understood that relevance, engagement and quality are prioritised when ranking search results on YouTube. Relevancy is also determined keeping users’ search and watch history in mind.
YouTube also prioritises content from authoritative and credible sources. This is highly relevant for news, political, medical and scientific content. In case of music, YouTube will look for popularity, freshness and relevancy. Recommended content depends on watch and search history, channels subscribed to, time of day, location among other factors.
