Global digital revenue increases 71% compared to last year, in Q2, even as physical stores reopen

Salesforce’s Q2 2020 Global Shopping Index reveals that 37% of consumers are online shopping “more than usual”.

Despite physical stores reopening in many parts of the world, the global digital revenue grew by 71% in Q2 2020, as compared to 2019. Australia and New Zealand (+140%), Canada (+111%), and the US (+71%) recorded the highest digital spend in Q2.

The quarter saw metrics like digital traffic (+37%), conversions (+35%), and consumer spends (+34%) contribute to the global digital revenue jump. Categories with highest growth in consumer spend are toys and learning (+181%), health and beauty (+138%), and home (+134%).

Snapshot Research Series by Salesforce found that sites that operate physical stores but don’t offer pickup options saw 54% growth. Whereas sites advertising buy online or curb-side pickup options saw digital revenues increase by 127% YoY.
