Overall US household spending on consumer-packaged goods improves 17% in June 2020, compared to 2019

NCSolutions’ (NCS) report found that categories like alcohol, frozen foods and meat saw the highest gains in June as consumers were confined to home-shopping.

The report revealed that overall household spending on consumer-packaged-goods (CPG) was up 17% in June 2020, compared to June 2019. The average household grocery spend in the US slipped 6% in June from May.

However, May 2020 saw a 21% increase in overall household spending on CPG as compared to May 2019. At 27%, meat has been the highest performing category from 22 March 2020 onwards through 30 June, as compared to the same period in 2019.

In that period, alcohol sales increased 22% during the home-confined buying stage compared to 2019. Further, sales of frozen poultry was the top growing category during June 2020 as compared to 2019.
