Links comprise of one of the top two criteria Google considers in its page ranking algorithm. Following this, external linking is seen as the third most important factor for search optimisation among SEO experts. However, 41% of SEOs say link-building is the most difficult part of search optimisation.

42% of SEOs say they spend equal time on external and internal link building. Of those polled, 13% believe that link building is the most valuable SEO tactic. 65% of marketers look at domain authority to determine link quality. 48% look to domain rating and 36% see page authority.

Page ranking is the top KPI used by 38% of marketers to measure link-building efforts. Long-form content tends to receive an average of 77.2% of more links than short articles.
