SEMrush analysed data from over 2000 world’s most visited ecommerce sites across multiple categories from Fashion to Consumer Electronics.
With lockdowns restricting people from stepping out of their homes, consumers are increasingly turning to ecommerce for everything from daily necessities to major purchases like laptops. Monthly “buy online’’ searches jumped to 27,500+ searches in March from 14,800+ in February of this year across all categories.
The average YoY growth for ecommerce sites in the first half of 2020 was around 30%. In the period between March and June 2020, Sports and Outdoor category lead the growth in traffic.
The study also found that around 70% of all ecommerce traffic originated from mobile devices and recommends optimising for mobile to improve conversions. Further, with 60% of all traffic being “Direct”, businesses should focus on brand recognition and customer loyalty.
