Representative tweets’ descriptions will roll out to the app and twitter.com.
To help users discover why topics are trending, Twitter will provide context by adding a representative tweet. This representative tweet (in the form of a pinned tweet and description) will appear alongside trends to help users understand why certain topics are trending.
However, only “some” tweets will have a representative tweet pinned to them. As trending topics are frequent, it would be unrealistic to pin representative tweets for all of them. A human curation team would select the right tweets to pin as representative tweets for each trend.
Alongside a human team, Twitter is also using an algorithm to help curators determine tweets best suited for trends. While representative tweets are being rolled out on iOS and Android now, they will be launched on browser version eventually.
