Shopify’s recent survey of American and Canadian consumers reveals that 81% of consumers plan to shop online through the end of 2020.
The study on buying habits during COVID-19 found that 60% of consumers reported shopping online more during the lockdowns than they did before. 52% of consumers reported shifting more of their spends online compared to pre-pandemic and, 51% feel uncomfortable shopping in-store.
However, 46% of consumers shopped from independently-owned, local businesses since the outbreak, and 61% plan to buy from local retailers six months from now. Curb-side pickup was the ideal choice for online purchases among 40% of the consumers.
Of those polled, 29% of consumer said text message updates would improve their curb-side pickup experience. 33% shoppers anticipate using local deliveries throughout 2020. 63% reported buying more digital experiences during the pandemic.
