Bid-on Equipment surveyed 2,000 Americans to gain insights on their experiences with takeout restaurants amid COVID-19.
Despite restrictions on lockdowns easing and restaurants reopening, 59% of consumers in the US favour ordering from local area restaurants, than national name brands. With 65% ordering takeout since COVID-19, consumers on an average spent $67 per week and ordered 2.4 times a week.
Millennials spent the highest on takeout with an average of $70 per week. Of those polled, 43% of consumers reported feeling unsafe dining inside of a restaurant. Only one in three dined inside restaurants since they reopened.
However, 77% of consumers said they left tips on takeout orders. Millennials and Gen Z left an average of 15% tip. Further, one-third said they ordered alcohol to-go, and 57% stated they would like to see alcohol to-go as a permanent option post-pandemic.
