Muck Rack’s 2020 Annual Journalist Survey highlights how tech journalists are shifting focus in their reporting, covering virtual events and being pitched.
Over half (54%) of tech journalists said they were covering more stories revolving around remote work tech and virtual communication as a result of the pandemic. Only 15% of respondents mentioned that COVID-19 did not affect their reporting in any way.
The majority (43%) of tech journalists also said the pitches they have received for virtual events were not personalised to them or their work. Only 20% of them reported that virtual event-related pitches were personalised.
Around 31% of respondents said their chances of responding to pitches this year is less than the same time last year. Additionally, Zoom was the most preferred virtual event platform among tech journalists, followed by YouTube and Microsoft Teams.
