A study by SEMrush and Brado found 99% of all featured snippets tend to appear within the first organic position of a SERP.
The study revealed that around one-fifth of all keywords trigger a featured snippet. As nearly all featured snippets tend to appear within the first organic position, it makes featured snippets indispensable for improving click-through rates. A separate study found that over 35% of all clicks are driven by featured snippets.
Travel and Computer & Electronics are the top industries seeing a featured snippet in 62% of all cases, followed by Arts & Entertainment at 59% and Science at 54%. Moreover, long-tail keywords are more likely to trigger featured snippets than short-tail keywords.
47% of list-type featured snippets come from date-marked content, 44% from paragraphs, followed by videos (20%) and tables (19%). However, marketers should make frequent content updates to optimise content for featured snippets.
