PlagiaShield studied over 52,000 blog pages to highlight content-related challenges facing SaaS blogs’.
The study found over 60% of SaaS blog posts are not unique to their website. These content thieves republish the content of SaaS blogs to increase their brand visibility, grow their authority, potentially scam other people or even duplicate site to spread viruses.
The average blog post length of this stolen content was around 2,200 words. The median word count of these blogs was 1,050 words. More than half of the text published in those non-unique pages could be found elsewhere on the web. The typical SaaS blog post had around 1,600 potential thieves.
But, there are also many legitimate reasons behind content appearing elsewhere, like PR distribution and podcast directories. The article suggests SaaS companies can also turn content theft into SEO benefit by demanding a backlink and submitting a DCMA to Google.
