2020 also had 46% of consumers aged 30-44 ordering takeout. The article highlights the growth in the significance of branding, profits, and differentiation of prepared meals. New production and distribution centres have opened, and same-day delivery services are being adopted to increase the proximity of food to consumers.
Freshly prepared products will be imperative for grocery stores and restaurants, as prepared food becomes more widely available. Further, prepared meals could make “cooking optional”, reduce impulse snacking purchases, and coerce food companies to focus on health and sustainability.
