UK consumer confidence remains high

GFK’s consumer confidence index has remained unchanged since May 2021 at -9, the highest since the COVID-19 outbreak.

Despite concerns around rising inflation, UK consumer confidence remained at its highest post-pandemic level during June. GFK also found forecasts for personal finance over the next year rose one point to 11, now around 15 points higher YoY.

The view on consumers’ personal financial situation has improved by four points to zero over the past year. Around one point improvement has also been observed in consumer views of the broader economic situation over the past 12 months.

Over the next 12 months, expectations over the general economic situation dropped to -2, though this remains 46 points higher than in June 2020. GFK’s client strategy director Joe Staton said, “On a more positive note, we have strong numbers for our personal financial situation, both for the past year and the year to come….”
