Fleets will be withdrawn from 3 August and will be replaced by Twitter’s live audio chat rooms, Spaces.
Twitter's Fleets feature is being phased out due to low usage, less than a year after its launch. Users will see active Spaces instead of Fleets starting 3 August, and the text-formatting and GIF stickers over images features from Fleets will be migrated to regular tweets.
The feature’s inability to attract more users led to Fleets’ rollback. While Twitter was testing full-screen ads in Fleets, it's unclear if those ads would appear in other parts of the app in the future.
Twitter's vice president of product, Ilya Brown, notes, “We haven’t seen an increase in the number of new people joining the conversation with Fleets like we hoped.” However, by listening to customer feedback, the company intends to develop new techniques to increase conversation and participation.
