Boosting employee engagement can help companies put a stop to record-level resignations

According to an Energage survey, employee engagement levels are at their lowest since the pandemic.

Employee engagement has been in focus after the companies scrambled to accommodate employees at the onset of the pandemic. But despite a slight bump towards the end of 2020, engagement plummeted again this year. Education, hospitality, telecommunications and services are among the industries that are experiencing the lowest engagement levels.

The report attributes initial hiring freezes and layoffs as reasons for employee burnout. Additionally, remote work situations have left employees feeling like they are working round the clock. Burnout and waning employee loyalty are damaging all reputational gains companies may have made early in the pandemic.

Instead of overanalysing the past, organisations must work to improve present working conditions for their employees. Similarly, they should prioritise engagement for the future through focus areas like running a hybrid workforce efficiently, employee safety and maintaining work-life balance.
